About me

I have lived in the Washington area since 1966. Initially I worked in the Montgomery County Public Schools as a teacher.  After four years of teaching, I returned to graduate school and completed my Master's Degree in School Counseling and began a Ph.D. program in Counseling Psychology at The American University.

After I received my Master's Degree in School Counseling, I returned to Montgomery County Schools and was a guidance counselor at Eastern Jr. High School.  I left there to serve as a high school guidance counselor at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School (BCC). My next assignment in the school system was as a specialist known as a Student Resource Teacher (SRT).  As an SRT I worked at Parkland Jr. High and Wootton High School.

In this capacity I worked with students in grades 7 through 12 who had school adjustment and behavioral issues, learning difficulties or both. I was also a consultant to teachers and parents regarding behavior and adjustment issues of adolescents.  This experience has been invaluable since I went into private practice in 1980 after completing my Ph.D. and becoming a licensed Psychologist.  This is a profession that requires many years of training and experience to reach your peak as a helping person and I have learned a great deal in my 30 years of private practice.

I have a general practice but SPECIALIZE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS: marriage counseling and sexual difficulties, communication skills, conflict resolution skills, anger management, sports psychology, substance abuse and helping family members deal with the substance abuser and getting them treatment.

I do a great deal of couples counseling and also help resolve interpersonal conflicts between family members and business partners. I also do divorce counseling to help families have a "healthy divorce" for all family members, especially the children. In addition I do a lot of work related to parenting effectively and eliminating behavior problems of children and adolescents.  Of course, I also work directly with pre-adolescents and adolescents to help them with school related problems, family problems and/or issues in their personal lives.

I also specialize in Sports Psychology.  As a former college athlete (baseball) and former Montgomery County Schools basketball coach, I have also specialized in helping athletes reach their maximum potential.

I am currently in the process of writing a book on the secrets to a happy, fulfilling and stress-free life.  The emphasis of the book is on how to have the best possible marriage, how to be a great parent and finding fulfillment in  life. I look forward to being a resource to you.
